Today's Thought

"Neither Satan nor any other power can weaken or destroy your growing character. Only you could do that through disobedience. That is why Satan is so intently focused on tempting you to make decisions that will undermine your character. Satan is an accomplished master at making devastating choices appear attractive, even reasonable. So be careful. At this critical time of life you will be faced with many choices. The decisions you will make will profoundly affect life now and for eternity. Make them wisely and prayerfully."

RS Humanitarian Projects

Last week at Relief Society we did a humanitarian project.
Several actually.

Kayla Olsen came over for a visit and met me at RS.
We teamed up and were able to complete two blankets like this.

Also completed were:

63 Courage capes

12 dolls

6+ blankets

6 baby blankets

4 sleepers

1 quilt for the missionaries
(The Stake RS wanted each missionary serving in our area to have a homemade quilt.)

Many hands make light work.
It was a fun evening and fun to have Kayla over.

Good luck in your new adventures Kayla!

Home

For years I have been asking daddy if we can paint the sad looking brick on our house.
FINALLY...he has consented....
only because we are also getting a new roof, siding and soffit and fascia.
(This is not fun money to spend.)

BEFORE

DURING
Mom and Stan stopped by and helped pull the bushes back away from the house so we could paint. And YES, I helped paint as well but daddy never takes pictures so I do all that.

Don't worry about the over spray, it will be covered by the new siding.

We bought this house in 1987 for our "starter" home. We would stay here for about five years and hope to get a bigger home.

Almost 30 years later and here we STILL are.
I don't think we will be moving anytime soon and for the most part, that is ok with us.

However, I would still like a bigger kitchen and living room.
Yes, the kids are all gone but when they come back they bring MORE kids and MORE adults.

Mom and Stan are amazing with flowers and such.
Their yard is beautiful!
They spend tons of time in it and make it glorious. When they have yard sales, people are so excited, not to come to the yard sale but to come and see their back yard.

Here's Krampa making our flower bed beautiful.
He is so kind! Love his guts!

Here is the after.
We still have work to do in the this flower bed area but we are happy with the siding and paint.
I am SOOOO glad we painted!
I guess I should get a picture from the front of the house
but I'm not sure I got a "before" picture either.

AFTER
(you may not be able to tell the difference but if you saw it in person you would)

The following is a few pictures of Krampa and moms yard.
Yes, you may dream.

These were taken before it was in full bloom.

Cortney and Mitch had their wedding reception in this yard (a long dream of Cortney's) and this is where they stood two years ago.

Buuuut since we aren't willing to spend the time like they do AND because we can't even grow rocks...we shall be happy with what we have.

Oh, and this occurred during their redoing the roof.
Luckily the roofer only came partially through and he didn't get hurt.

They were going to fix it but daddy said he would finish it so they knock very little off the total price.

We miss this

Last Saturday we got took the chance to go running the canyon.
One of our favorite things to do...or it was.
We have gotten out of the habit of exercise and our bellies and energy are showing it.
It was a nice 5 mile run, mostly downhill which gives me a little confidence.
The weather is still a little too hot to run after work or later in the day, which I don't care to do anyway. But Saturday was a pretty nice temperature even though we got a late start.

We hope to keep this up!

We went for a walk earlier this week as well but then our nights got so busy with other obligations.
However, I did get to run with Dawn on Tuesday morning and on Wednesday morning I got to play some more Pickleball.

This Saturday Daddy is the High Counselor over a Stake golf tournament and he needs to show his face that morning. We are still hoping to go for a run in the morning.

Pickleball

Well we finally did it.
Someone took the time to teach us how to play...
Larry and Christine Romer from the 17th ward taught us how to play this morning before work.
The rules will take a little bit to learn but we had a lot of fun!

The only mishap was when I stepped on the ball, twisted my left ankle and landed on my right knee. I also ripped a muscle in my left butt cheek.
So far the ankle feels ok, the knee....it's gonna leave a mark and my butt hurts to sit...or stand...or walk.

We can't wait to go again!
I guess we need to invest in some paddles first.

Life-style Changes - How do you do it?

Now is the time for healthy choices. I have GOT to figure out how to do this.

Our exercise has dropped off the face of the earth.
The "picking up something from fast food and taking it home" has increased.

Daddy had a physical last Friday and he got some results back yesterday.
"Your cholesterol is up from last time", (which was up from LAST time as well).

It's time for healthy eating and exercise or he goes on meds.

We had a discussion last night that neither one of us has a problem with eating it, it's the making a menu, shopping, preparing. We know it shouldn't be that hard, but it IS! We just can't get our minds wrapped around it.

We both like fruits and veggies...for the most part but I guess we are just too lazy to prepare.

My Dr. moved and so I need to find another Dr. so I can go for my yearly that I already missed and have some blood work done as well...
but I am also afraid to hear what they have to say about my results.

On the other hand. I am so tired of being so tired.

Where to start when we have the best excuses for everything?

Nap for lunch gone bad.

I have been so tired this week and could have used a nap at lunch today. Unfortunately there are a million (give or take) guys at my house tearing off and putting on a new roof (Money that I'm not having fun spending). Soooo I said to meself. "Self, go pick up a salad and Lime Rickey and go park in the shade at Pioneer". What a great idea I had! So I did...only to park two stalls away from a guy in his running, DIESEL truck taking a nap. How do I know this? His head was tipped back and his mouth was wide open. Why he just didn't turn off the truck and open the windows was beyond me. There was nice breeze and it was cool in the shade. I opened my book and started on my lunch when a young kid pulls in between us with his music, hip hop or something going and starts puffing on his Ecig. Gag, gag...roll up my window and the car starts getting warm because the breeze was coming from the direction of the hip hop car.
So I then head back to work to finish my lunch. It is freezing in our building so I just sat in the parking lot. Instead of enjoying the green grass and trees at the park I get to enjoy looking at this...along with an occasional skunk smell coming from the pastures near by.

I never did get a nap. I look like a Zombie.

OCD?

I don't consider myself as being OCD until something happens and then I try to "deal" with it as long as possible, trying to let it "not bother" me.

This is a current problem at my house.
See the problem?
I'll let you look again.

See it now?

No?

There are two different colors of towels.
I like matching towels in my bathroom.

I am holding out until these are washed.
I know I can do it.
I can do hard things right?

By the way...we went to visit some people in the hospital the other day. As we walked down the hallway there are framed pictures hanging that employees having taken. They had writing on the bottom of what the painting is and who took them.
One of them had the writing crooked that I had to rush by it and try not to look.

By the way Audrey, if you read this you had an awesome picture and NO, the crooked wording was not on your picture.

Is this considered OCD?
