I already had most of the material bought and stored for a few years so when I decided to go ahead and make her a real live one I needed to go get some contrasting colors to go with.
I googled quilt squares to see what I could find with the colors I chose so I could see what else I needed to go with it, find a pattern and then see how much material I needed and how to cut it and sew it back together.
I found this picture....
Sooo.....I found the book with the pattern in it and ordered the book.
Smackers! It has TONS of patterns in it.
It did not give step by step instructions for each individual pattern but it did give an example of one block at the front of the book. (Not the block I was going to do)
Well being new to this quilting concept
I consulted with my mother the beautiful quilt maker.
She was able to get me started and away I went.....
Well I didn't get very far before I decided that I NEEDED a new sewing machine so I can do those 1/4" seams.
So Daddy bought me this.
Can I just say how much I LOVE my new machine!!
I do wish that I would have got the one that is a little bigger though to feed more quilt through the throat and that has a few more fancy stitches. But I haven't done much "quilting" yet, just sewing.
Back to my quilt:
Being new to the quilting I didn't realize that this was NOT a beginner project block
BUT
I was able to master the quilt.
THIS is what the top looked like on a bed before the batting and quilting was done.
And this is what it looked like after I paid someone to machine quilt it for me.
There was no way I was going to have time to quilt it before Christmas and this turned out just lovely.
He was very impressed with how all my corners lined up, especially for my first quilt.
Then I made the binding and sewed it on.
I did it backwards but it still turned out cute.
TA DA!!!
My first pieced quilt!
