Today's Thought

"Neither Satan nor any other power can weaken or destroy your growing character. Only you could do that through disobedience. That is why Satan is so intently focused on tempting you to make decisions that will undermine your character. Satan is an accomplished master at making devastating choices appear attractive, even reasonable. So be careful. At this critical time of life you will be faced with many choices. The decisions you will make will profoundly affect life now and for eternity. Make them wisely and prayerfully."

May 11 - Rescue, Test and games

This was Elder Shelley's first try at a rescue. He was one of the first and as they morning went on, they changed a few things to make it a little easier. He wanted to get it out of the way so he didn't fret the whole morning, but as they watched each other, they learned more and more with each rescue. The sisters were able to participate doing the "bum belay" instead of the men working the regular belay.

This is how I really feel after all this training.

Once the rescue's were done, we all went back to Smith Pavilion to have lunch, then the tests, then we ended the day with Minute to Win it games.

May 10, Wednesday, Swing and Snowballs

On Wednesday, we all went to CC#5 - Swing. A lot of it was dug out.

There were a few people that was able to do this, and when it got close to being done, Elder Croft decided to tackle his fears. Just before they started pulling him up, he yelled to everyone to go ahead and throw snowballs at him to get his mind off of the swinging part. So they pulled him half way up and stopped him and the snowballs started flying. Then they pulled him up the rest of the way and the snowballs continued.

When he was done, there was one more person and then I decided to take a turn. When they were hooking me up, I told Joey (the Clas Ropes trainer) to hand me a snowball. I tucked it in my sweatshirt so when I let go, I was able to arm myself with a snowball. After I threw that, the snowballs started flying. I was able to catch a few and throw back and then one of the rope pullers was tossing me more so I could throw more to the big crowd. I'm glad I took that opportunity!

Swing & Snowballs

The video quit too early, but Sister Kunzler brought over a huge snowball on the ladder. I broke it in half and threw those for one last splat!

May 6 - PDay - Back 40

 Today is Pday.

We went down into Heber and got a few groceries and did some laundry at camp.

We then went back into Heber to the Back 40 Road House, for dinner with Crofts, Wingets and McQuivey's.

We had such a fun waitress, she had to take this from both angles.

Did I say how much I love these people?

May 5 - Midway Dairy

Today we went with our Zone to Midway Dairy for a tour.

After the tour, we all ordered their famous grilled cheese and Tomato Basil soup.
They even had Lemon Custard ice cream, so I couldn't pass that up.

That night...
It snowed...again.

The blessings we see after a hard days work of shoveling!
This momma and baby (maybe a yearling) waltzes right through our camp.

May 3 - Challenge Course dig out

This is another Challenge Course.
This part is where the zipline comes down. We were making a tunnel so that they didn't drag on the snow.
We were able to get down to dirt as well. I don't know why I don't have a picture of that part.

That night I tried my first time baking cookies in the trailer.
Someone told me to put foil on the bottom rack so the heat would distribute better and not just burn the bottom. It worked!
It got me thinking about my grandma. She baked bread ALL THE TIME in her trailer. I wonder what trick she used. I've been thinking about her a lot lately.

May 2 CC5 - The Swing & Movie Night

Today we all went to CC5-The Swing, to help find their course.
They actually had to shovel a path for the swinger so they didn't drag on the snow.
Remember, most of the snow everywhere at the time was about 4-5 feet of packed snow.

You can get more of a feel of how deep the snow is with this picture.
They dug a path, with a skid steer, for us to get most of the way there.
This is our Zone Leaders, Elder & Sister Ellis.

This is Elder & Sister Dalton.

This is Sister Bishop giving it a go!

Sister Ellis (our District Leader) decided to sun bath.

Sister Shelley got her first taste of the CC5 Swing.
Elder Shelley got a crack at CC5 Swing as well.

We then went to Tomahawk Toss 2 to help them dig out and find at least two targets and the benches.

The path is there somewhere.

Everyone chipped in and took turns digging.

Those rails actually should be at your waist.

We're making progress!!!

That night we all watched a movie called The Long, Long Trailer.
It was pretty funny listening to all us campers watch the craziness of the movie.

May 1 - Let the digging begin

I am finding it so hard to keep up each day!!
On May 1, we hiked up to our course (Challenge Course 3), so we could shovel and find some of the benches. Some of us climbed and practiced our responsibilities.

This is normally a path. We are MAKING a path.

Then the digging begins.

This snow is intense!

We finally found the benches.
The snow is that deep on the rest of the course and under the zip line.

We are all taking turns going to each other's course to help dig out a bunch to at least practice.
