Today's Thought
"Neither Satan nor any other power can weaken or destroy your growing character. Only you could do that through disobedience. That is why Satan is so intently focused on tempting you to make decisions that will undermine your character. Satan is an accomplished master at making devastating choices appear attractive, even reasonable. So be careful. At this critical time of life you will be faced with many choices. The decisions you will make will profoundly affect life now and for eternity. Make them wisely and prayerfully."

Fall Vacation - Day 8
Friday we travelled from Yuma, Arizona to Phoenix. We went straight to the airport to pick up Cortney. She was flying in and driving back with us. We met Grandma Shelley, Claire & Danny and Lisa for lunch. Then we went shopping and back to Lisa's for the night.

Fall Vacation - Day 7
It's Howdy Doody time...It's Howd....wait, wrong song again.
It's Sham ma mooy time, It's Sham ma mooy time.
I have just LOVED this week to vacation with my best friend!!
We saved Sea World for Thursday because the WEATHER was suppose to be sunny and the RIDES were suppose to be all open. Well...it ended up being cloudy all day and a little chilly. But the best part was it was NOT busy. We were able to go to all the shows and get great seats. Since it was not a sunny day we stayed out of the "soak zones".
AND...since it was cloudy we only rode a couple of rides but it was fun.
No matter what we do we LOVE to do it together.
After closing time we headed over to Yuma, AZ for the night.
I can't believe how early it gets dark in California. There ought to be a law. We were unable to see all the "neat" sites between San Diego and Yuma, like the Mexican Border.
What a great week it has been though!
Guess where we are off to now?
We have another WEEK of fun before we head home.
But now is NOT the time to break in our house. We have our killer cat, family and neighbors taking care of everything at home. And if you are all good we might bring you home a souvenir.

Fall Vacation - Day 6
Day 6 started off heading towards Coronado Island by way of Seaport Village. We didn't stop at either place but headed to Imperial Beach. We walked the beach and out to this pier where the fishing was fine. We got there just in time to see these guys reel in a Thresher shark. It was pretty neat until they started taking the hook out and it was messing up the sharks eye. Eww...I had to turn away. Poor poor sharky.
After the entertainment we headed back to Seaport Village and walked around a bit.
Then we drove out to Point Loma to see the light house. So neat out there. You are at the end of the world out there. You can see for miles and miles.
When they first built this lighthouse they thought this was the perfect spot. It is was up on a hill/cliff area at the "point". Unfortunately they discovered that it was actually too high because when clouds or fog came in the lighthouse would be covered.
Then they built this lighthouse lower down so that the clouds and fog would not interfere.
Then we walked over to the Tide Pools to see if we could see any critters. Not this time other than the critters that attach themselves to the rocks but no star fish or octopus today. But the view was spectacular!
On Point Loma also stands Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. It was an awesome site. It was on both sides of the point/road. When we drove through the cemetery you could feel the reverence. To think that this is just a sliver of the men and women that died for our country. I salute you!

We ended our day going back to Old Town for dinner. We enjoyed a delicious Mexican meal at Miguel's. We sat outside by a fire. Who could ask for more?

Fall Vacation - Day 5
We got an early start so we could drive up to Newport Beach Temple.
When we went to go in they checked and couldn't find our name on their attendance list. We told them we didn't know we had to call ahead to schedule. They told us they had room anyway and invited us in. Then right when we got past the first desk we were asked to help in the session.
The colors are so beautiful and vibrant in the temple.
As we were sitting waiting for the session to start in comes David Archuleta.
We didn't get a chance to talk to him. Right after, either they were in a hurry to avoid the "fans" or they were late for something.
After the Newport Beach time we headed back to the San Diego Temple.
What a beautiful Temple!! The grand staircases inside were fabulous! A must see!
After the session we headed upstairs to see the atrium that was in the middle of the temple. From there we were invited to do some sealings. Another great experience.
Since we hadn't eaten since breakfast we finally changed our church clothes and went to some messy BBQ dinner at Phil's BBQ. Now we know why it is always busy.Great, wonderful day!

Fall Vacation - Day 4
After a wonderful breakfast we decided to go to Old Town. We spent more time there than we planned because every time we opened a door (went down a lane) it seems like there was a whole other "town". There were shops in every nook and cranny.
Loved this sign. Look at the bottom.
The first area we went to was Heritage Park. It had these neat houses that looked like story book homes and also I believe the first Jewish synagogue in San Diego. And look at the owners name for this house.
Then we went to the Mormon Battalion. They have a new interactive tour that was so cool! This is a must see. Here is daddy after he has been issued his army supplies and ready to go with the Mormon Battalion.
This is our tour guide Sis Kennington from Layton.
These guns were hEAvy! After the "war", that they never fought, they got to keep the guns. When they arrived in California instead of fighting, the members of the Mormon Battalion helped build the cities before they headed back to their families. Long story to put on here but very interesting. LOVED the tour!!
They had a roster of those that were in the battalion. We found two of Doran's ancestors.
If my dad was still here I would get him this shirt.
After the hours of hurt feet shopping we went to lunch at Coyote Cafe where we were even serenaded.
We went back to the hotel for a few so I could nurse a headache. Then we drove down to Point Loma to see the lighthouse and the tide pools full of neat creatures. Unfortunately we got there as they were closing so we will try to go back tomorrow or Wednesday. We will not be getting there at very good low tides this week but we will try anyway.
We had such a long day and late lunch we decided to order take out. Mmm good. What a good day.
Guess what tomorrow brings?!!
