Today's Thought

"Neither Satan nor any other power can weaken or destroy your growing character. Only you could do that through disobedience. That is why Satan is so intently focused on tempting you to make decisions that will undermine your character. Satan is an accomplished master at making devastating choices appear attractive, even reasonable. So be careful. At this critical time of life you will be faced with many choices. The decisions you will make will profoundly affect life now and for eternity. Make them wisely and prayerfully."

Brother's Quilt & Jump Creek Hike

On September 2 we headed up to Chelsea's to spend the weekend with them...
Well actually we stayed in a hotel. They now have a pet snake and I am allergic to snakes.
Anyway...it was Brother's birthday on Saturday so we got to go to his birthday party.
I finished this quilt for him just in time.

He called me this Saturday night to tell me he was bundled up in the quilt I gave him. So I told him to take a picture and send it to me.

I really hope he likes it.

Now all the grandkids have a rag quilt I made out of jeans worn by grandpa and me.

Well..the exception is...
Scooter hasn't got hers yet.
Her birthday is in November so she'll have to wait.

After church on Sunday we went for a hike with the kids.
I wish we lived closer to more things with them.

And I barged in on my Bananie while she was taking selfies.
Miss this kid!

So until the move back, I guess Grandpa and I will have to make more trips!

A New Talent - UPnaps

For years I would make fun of be amazed at the people that could fall asleep sitting up. Over the years I began to think how wonderful that would be when you are so tired that you just need a little cat nap, in a chair, in a meeting, in a vehicle, in church or wherever really. But noooo, not me, I need to be horizontal. Not only that, I have to admit that my little cat naps last a wee bit longer than a few minutes.

BTW...why do they call it a "cat nap" when cats sleep a long, long time?

Anyway, back to my story. My 15 minutes naps usually last an hour or so and if I lay down for a 30 minute nap, well who knows when I'll get up. The good thing all these years is that even when I get my "cat naps" I usually don't have a problem being ready for bed at night. (That is getting a little harder though).

I, however, have developed a new talent. See, the saying "Old dogs can learn new tricks" is true! Over the past several years I am always so tired and several times a week I will try to have a nap during my lunch hour. Remember...I am afraid to have a "cat nap"...you know how long THAT is. I admit, there have been times that I've had to stay longer at work or come in earlier that week to make up for my blunder.

So I decided one day a few months ago to try again to sleep sitting up after I wolfed down my lunch. I get in my assigned seat in the front room, pull open the recliner and put my head back. Something to mention here, until I pull the couch further away from the wall it doesn't recline very far. Anyway...

NO LUCK

I can't get comfortable! Remember my horizontal dilemma? I would also like to insert here that I can also sleep with a face plant on a beach ball on my lap while riding in a plane. I learned that trick last year! Which reminds me about the summer that daddy taught me how to spit while running and hiking and not get any on me or the summer that he taught me how to pee in the bushes.
I try again another day, this time I get a blanket to smooch up on one side of my head to keep me from getting a kink in my neck. I throw a blanket over my legs, fold my arms and WALA!!! I fell into a real live sleep nap! I didn't sleep long which I will refer to them as "UPnaps" (15 min) rather than a "cat nap" 1-2 hours. I have been practicing this more often and I am getting pretty good at them. However, I still haven't mastered the "UPnap" in church, or car yet. I also need to work on my mouth wide open with possible drool in the future. For now I am happy with my UPnaps!

Why do I tell you this now? Because I just had one for lunch today. Although I have upgraded to not needing the blanket by my head or a lap blanket. However I still would prefer the lap blanket but I was too tired to go get one.

So there's my new talent story.
I will continue to practice this new way of life until I master the necessary UPnaps where ever I go!

New Bishopric

"Things change all the time, Fancy" (from a book I read).

We knew changes were in the air.
Our Bishopric has been in almost 6 years and the change was in the air.
On Tuesday, August 16 we got called into the Stake office.

Daddy has been in the High Counsel longer than anyone else there, including the new Stake Presidency so we knew something might be up. I was hoping it wasn't anything for me on a Stake level.

Doran was extended a call in the new Bishopric that would take place in a couple of weeks.
That Sunday Doran gave his LAST talk in the 14th ward (our old cherished ward). It was also the ward that he gave his FIRST talk when he was assigned to the High Counsel a few years ago.

He wanted to mention that but he couldn't say it was his LAST talk so it was left unsaid. Later that day the Stake attended our ward and announced that a new Bishopric would be sustained the next Sunday.

For awhile now people kept telling Daddy he would be the next Bishop and that week didn't change either. But he could honestly say that it wasn't him. I guess it kind of makes you feel good when others think that you are spiritual enough or loved enough to be the Bishop. Not that others aren't loved and thought of the same way. But you know what I mean.

Sunday, August 28 a new Bishopric has been called for our ward.

Bishop Rick Crowther
Brother Doran Shelley - 1st Counselor
Brother Doug Harford - 2nd Counselor.

These are some awesome men!

This will also change up the routine at our house but I'm excited to support Daddy in his new calling.
He did a wonderful job with his testimony and told the ward that he was looking forward to administering to them.
I have no doubt that he already has a great love for our ward family.

But then guess what?
On his first official Sunday, we were out of town visiting Chelsea's family in Idaho.

Thanks to the out going Bishopric that served us for almost 6 years

But what do we call our new Bishop?
His name is Rick.

Do we call him

Bishop Rick
