Today's Thought

"Neither Satan nor any other power can weaken or destroy your growing character. Only you could do that through disobedience. That is why Satan is so intently focused on tempting you to make decisions that will undermine your character. Satan is an accomplished master at making devastating choices appear attractive, even reasonable. So be careful. At this critical time of life you will be faced with many choices. The decisions you will make will profoundly affect life now and for eternity. Make them wisely and prayerfully."

Running with the Leopards

Saturday, March 26, 2011, we ran with leopards. Really, we did!
To start our weekend off Doran and I drove down to Salt Lake Friday after work and picked up our race packet and then met Cortney and Vicki for dinner. Gotta have our pre-race dinner. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Olive Garden.
Doran, Cortney and I stayed the night in Salt Lake.
Saturday morning we met Susette and Mark for pictures. And then we hopped the bus to the starting line.
Let me tell you....it was FaReezzzing up there.
The wind was blowing and snot was freezing.
If people weren't being brave and running around trying to 'warm up' they were seeking shelter from the wind. Susette found this blade and decided this would be a good place to 'cop a squat'. I couldn't join them very long because bums would freeze and go numb sitting on the ground.
Really, really, it was SO cold!!
Then it came soon for the gun to go off we all gathered together to huddle in a pack to stay warm.
Doran went to tighten up his shorts before we headed down the road. He looked down and the string was gone. What do you think he found?......the tag. Muah ha ha ha...the tag that is in the BACK of your shorts. After some laughing he ran off behind a semi (wind shelter) to switch them around. LOL!!! Sorry honey, but you are so funny. He made it back just in time for the "GO"!

Looky here. Are you shocked that Doran came in before the rest of us?
Go daddy!!

Then I came strolling in. Wait, I must have been going too fast because I didn't get a picture.

RUN, Susette, RUN!!
This was Susette's first 5k in many, many years. Way ta go!!
And I do believe she is saying....I'm tired.
And here comes BUG!!!
You're almost there, keep going!
This is also her first 5k. She did such a good job!
Her momma and daddy are so proud of her.
This was such a fun race and a fun time with great people!!!
It is actually Susette's fault that I signed up for the
Then she started looking at the Top of Utah Half Marathon (which is at the end of August) BEFORE she even ran the Utah Valley race and BEFORE she even ran her first 5k. She has such faith so I thought I would join her. Yep, I signed both daddy and I up for BOTH the Half Marathons. And all this with my injured foot. WHAT was I thinking??
This race just may make it on our "Yearly" run agenda.
So fun and mostly down hill!!
You know how I like down hill!!
Oh and they didn't have our times posted before we left so hopefully we will find out in a couple of days.
Neeext.....

Update:
          Doran 24:18
          Jody 29:19
          Susette 30:40
          Cortney 33:48

Baptism Quilt #2

This quilt is for a boy in my Primary class. He is getting baptized tomorrow.
Unfortunately I will not make it. Doran and I along with Cortney and Susette will be running a race in Salt Lake. Hopefully it will STOP snowing/raining and will NOT be snowing/raining in the morning. It can AFTER the race. Wish us luck!

Leavin' on a jet plane.....

I built a song for Jake....ok maybe John Denver helped with the tune.
Sing it with me.....(clearing throat)

All his bags are packed and ready to go,
And leave us all on American soil,
So he can go and teach in Uruguay.
He’s armed with faith and courage to find,
The souls that seek the peace of mind,
That comes from knowledge of our Heavenly home.

Our Father who art in Heav’n
Will turn our boy into a man.
And keep him safe so he can do the work.
Oh he’s leavin’ on a jet plane
Two years he’ll be in Uruguay.
So wave to Jake and pray.

Elder Olsen 1st missionary companion.
Work hard and you will be fine!
We will see you in two years!

Mom! Can I have his room and his phone?

Temple Trip #1

Last month Doran and I talked about visiting a different temple each month or as often as we could. Actually I talked, daddy listened. So this month would be our first trip. I looked up all the temples that were within a certain amount of hours from us and told daddy I could put the names in a hat and he could draw out of name. Instead he decided he wanted to go to Twin Falls Temple in Idaho. So when Friday morning rolls around and after we drove the kids to school in our jammies (because Chelsea was a sickie) we came back home to get showered and ready to go on our trip. Then another text comes and says that Cookie has hives and if we would go pick her back up from school. So off we go again. Dad has a hat on to cover his lovely hair. I on the other hand...psha! Then he proceeds to drive down MAIN to embarrass me. HE says to show off my beAuTiNess. Anyway......
We finally left town and on our way. I sent a text to my brother, Jon, and asked if by any chance any of his kids are in Twin Falls playing sports. They live in Pocatello but go all over playing sports. He writes back and says....."As a matter of fact...." Are you serious? LOL. Well we were able to watch Katie play two games in the FAREEZZing cold!! Good thing daddy had us grab a heavy coat and I through in a denim quilt. Ya never know if you will break down and need to bundle, right?
Here is Katie sportin' her jersey. She played short-stop, 3rd base and 2nd base. Their team won both games.
Hey batter, batter, batter.....she had some really good hits.

Most of the team went back home just to turn around and come back for more games on Saturday but Jon talked Katie and her friend into staying the night. So after the games we went to Jakers for dinner. I recommend this place. DEEElish! Doran and I shared the most tender steak. I'm ready to go back.
THIS....my friends is the "room" that daddy and I got. We got a smokin' deal on this place. Lesson for you: It never hurts to ask "Is this price the best you can do?" Usually they can give you a better deal. This was only about $19 dollars more than a regular room with NO jacuzzi.
Upstairs was the jacuzzi with a big TV.
The more we sleep on a King size bed the more we want one. But....until we move out of our cracker box and into our mansion we will cuddle just fine on our Queen bed.
I had the best nights sleep I had in such a long time until daddy started stealing covers about 5 a.m.
This jacuzzi was HUGE!!
There were three big TV's in the whole place.
On our way home we decided to stop at a couple of "sites" that we were told we had to see. So we found this place.

And this place.
You can't see it but the spray from the falls were getting us pretty wet. AND it was blowing and cold.
We decided that we DEFINITELY have to go back in the summer time. The weather would be better and the colors prettier.
This one shows the spray pretty good.
We can't wait to go back!
Then we stopped here. I am guessing this is where the city got their name.

But now there is not 'twin'.
And the reason for our trip....
The Twin Falls Temple.
Before we left I made sure that it was going to be open. We discovered that they do not rent clothes there so we had to get Doran some pants the night before.
AND when we were done with our session we found out that because this is such a small temple that you needed to schedule a session. Ooops. No wonder it was so packed.
This was the smallest temple we have been in and it was very personal.
It got me SO excited for the Brigham City Temple!!!
I think the Brigham temple will be a little bigger than Twin Falls but I guess we will wait and see.
Once again...blowing and cold!

That is the end of our Temple Trip tour.
Thanks for joining us. I can't wait to see where we get to go next.

Getting lost...

Have you ever started looking for a certain picture in your mass of boxes and bins and albums and jump drives and your.......just to get lost in memories? Well I do ALL the time and I LOVE it!! I can't even remember what I started looking for but oh well, I came up with a post.

I started blogging in 2007 and I actually have some pictures prior to 2007 ON my computer (through transferring etc). I really do believe that I need to start posting some of these pictures that are prior to 2007. I just love to go down memory lane. I wish someone would take my boxes and boxes of pictures and scan them all for me and get them organized. And please, please tell me who is in the pictures. Some of these I may never know because my dad has passed on now and they are his side of the family.

Anyway... Because this is OUR blog here we go down Memory Lane in 2004.

I get butterflies just thinking how blessed we are to be married to each other. The first few years were a little shaky but now when you (I) can focus on what is really important and focus on the good things in each other a.k.a your ATTITUDE, life is guuud.

It's Great Being Married to Your Best Friend!!
I love your guts, Doran!

Give-A-Way

A few weeks ago my dawling daughter, Cortney, let me borrow a book. I fell in love with this book and wanted to share it with someone. Anyone. Maybe YOU!!

This book should be read and then re-read. I had a hard time finding it. I looked on Deseret Book, Seagull and they do not sell it anymore. I finally found it on Amazon and because I am a chintz I ordered TWO used ones. I figured I could give two away at the price I got them for. I have ordered used books before and they came in wonderful shape. This time....not so. I will not be sending these to you. Well one of them would be ok. I wouldn't mind winning one of them but because I want friends, I better look like I care and send a non bent book.

The Incredible Gifts of Women is about 12 Gifts That Will Change Your Life Now. Barbara Barrington Jones has traveled for the last 30 years speaking to thousands of women all over the world, including the United States, Mexico, South Africa, China, Korea, and Australia. When she asks them about the greatest problems they face in their daily lives, she has found four major concerns to women everywhere:

•"I feel overwhelmed, overscheduled and exhausted."
•"I don't like what I see in the mirror anymore."
•“I just always feel so unhappy and depressed.”
•“I’m afraid that I’m losing my spiritual connection with God and Jesus Christ.”

The Incredible Gifts of Women was written so that her experiences – and those of other women – can help those who feel they may have lost their God-given gifts of joy, happiness, and self-worth to discover their own personal gifts and inspire them to change their lives and blossom into self-confident women of God.

One of my favorite parts is when she tells of a story about her friend, Wanda.

Wanda's husband was a distributor for Wrigley's Spearmint gum. Each week, after filling all his orders, he would call the company and they would send a delivery person to his home to replenish his supply. The deliveryman knew exactly where to leave the cases in Brother Swenson's garage.

One particularly hectic morning, after the children had left for school and Wanda had fed the baby, she decided that she would throw in a quick load of laundry before starting her day. Still in her nightgown, holding the baby in one arm, she grabbed the laundry basket and headed for the washing machine in the corner of the garage. The first thing she spotted on the garage floor was her son's football helmet. She put the laundry basket down, threw the clothes in the washer, picked up the helmet, and lacking another hand to carry it, plopped it on to her head. Then the baby spat up all of the recently eaten rice cereal on Wanda's nightgown. Spit up was everywhere and had soaked through to the skin. In desperation, she put the baby under one arm horizontally, stripped down to nothing, and threw the soiled clothing into the washing machine. Get the picture!

At that very moment, the garage door started to open. It was the delivery man! She decided to "freeze!" Maybe he would not notice. He took two big cases out of his trunk and carried them to the designated spot. He repeated this several times without so much as a glance in her direction. As the trunk was emptied and he was leaving, he said, "Say lady, I sure hope your team wins."

After I read that I HAD to read it to Doran and laughed just as hard the second time.
Did I say I LOVE this book?

SO....I finally got on her web site and ordered a NEW one. it comes with a CD too. The CD does not cover the whole book but it has snippets. Not sure when this will come but when it does....it is yours!!

All you have to do is:
1-Leave a comment
2-Follow my blog
3-Follow me on twitter
4-Give me your blood type
5-Leave me your credit card number
6-Send me a birthday card
7-Text me and tell me you love me

Fine.......all I require is that you leave me a comment or e-mail and tell me you want to win this book. That's it. I will have daddy close his eyes and pick a name from 'the bowl'. When it gets here I will send it out pronto. One more request....when you get done reading it, read it again or share with your neighbor, friend, family.

I will close this "opportunity" on Wednesday, March 23. (I told daddy to tell me a day next week. He has no idea what for. That's how we roll around here.)

Ready.....Set.....GO!!
If a cow laughed, would she spew milk out of her nose?

Good 'ol days....

Every day I am realizing how much I miss our old blog. It has some fun things on it.
Someone told me that they combined their old blog with their new one so she didn't lose all of her stuff. I guess I better ask her more in depth how she did it.

Anyway as I keep going back to the old blog I keep finding things I want to re post on here. For right now I won't re post but I will have you click THIS LINK and visit this post. I still laugh when I see it.

Someday I will speak Spanish as well as he does....

Invisible

A few weeks ago we went to Cortney's friends' baptism down in Provo.
We were rushing a little bit to find our way there. It was on campus and YES, you can get lost real easy if you don't frequent the area.
Anyway, in our rush Doran left his wallet just like this right in plain sight between the front seats.
He fretted on the LONG, LONG walk to the chapel/room trying to remember if he left it out in plain sight or somewhere else. We felt that it would be ok because we were at a baptism. We were where we were supposed to be, supporting this great event for Marie.
It must have been invisible to those who walked by the car because there it was, just like this. Whew!
I LOVE baptisms, don't you?

What were we thinking?

Today was "Take an ancestor to the temple" day. We had some names from my dad's family to do so off we go at 7:00 this morning. Hopefully we will be able to fully complete the work within the next couple of months.

Then we stopped at IHOP for our healthy breakfast. Really we did have a healthy one. Crepes and fruit and bacon, sausage, eggs, hash browns. Delish!!

Off towards home to take a quick nap and then off for a run. I told daddy that I would like to try running today but I needed some downhill. Guess where we went?!?!........WHAT WERE WE THINKING?

Instead of running a couple of miles in town, to avoid some UPhills we went to the canyon. And NO, not our usual Doran run up the canyon and meet me and I will run back DOWN with him. (5 miles) NO!!! We thought we could try the "Road Sheds" run.

EIGHT, I repeat EIGHT miles!!! Remember, I haven't been running? Well ya. Audrey was heading up the canyon with a friend to walk the trails but Doran wanted 'road' today so we were lucky to have Kim give us a ride up to the sheds. Then he was going to drop Audrey off at the trails.

Did I say WHAT WERE WE THINKING?

Oh. My. Hanna!! As I sit here on the couch with the recliner up and demanding food brought to me because I can't walk is NOT a joke. If only my right leg and foot would feel as good as my left I think I could have finished with a smile on my face. Not sure who I can borrow a wheelchair from for the next couple of days.

No, I did not run ALL the way. I ran more than I thought I would but still... By time we were about 1.25 miles from home I told Doran to just leave me and GO. GET. THE. CAR!!! I was done. I was tired, hungry and achy. Even though Kim had his phone on stand-by for me to call for a mercy ride I kept plugging...uh slugging...uh chugging...well anyway. Did my best friend come back for me with the car? NO! NOT! Uh uh. By time I turned the last corner (about 4.5 blocks from home) I could see the black and white dot (that's the color he was wearing) coming my way.....on FOOT! He made it home, went in to get keys and looked up the road and decided (on his own) that I could make it the rest of the way.  Well "Bless his heart". I did. I ended up going 8 miles to my driveway in 1.5 hours. My stud of a Best Friend, that would run ahead and back for me for miles and miles, made it 9.25 miles.

Again........WHAT WERE WE THINKING???

But that's ok. We like to do everything together, even stink.
For my challenge buddies......I had THREE servings of grapefruit before I tried to fall to the floor to stretch.
