Today's Thought

"Neither Satan nor any other power can weaken or destroy your growing character. Only you could do that through disobedience. That is why Satan is so intently focused on tempting you to make decisions that will undermine your character. Satan is an accomplished master at making devastating choices appear attractive, even reasonable. So be careful. At this critical time of life you will be faced with many choices. The decisions you will make will profoundly affect life now and for eternity. Make them wisely and prayerfully."

Give-A-Way

A few weeks ago my dawling daughter, Cortney, let me borrow a book. I fell in love with this book and wanted to share it with someone. Anyone. Maybe YOU!!

This book should be read and then re-read. I had a hard time finding it. I looked on Deseret Book, Seagull and they do not sell it anymore. I finally found it on Amazon and because I am a chintz I ordered TWO used ones. I figured I could give two away at the price I got them for. I have ordered used books before and they came in wonderful shape. This time....not so. I will not be sending these to you. Well one of them would be ok. I wouldn't mind winning one of them but because I want friends, I better look like I care and send a non bent book.

The Incredible Gifts of Women is about 12 Gifts That Will Change Your Life Now. Barbara Barrington Jones has traveled for the last 30 years speaking to thousands of women all over the world, including the United States, Mexico, South Africa, China, Korea, and Australia. When she asks them about the greatest problems they face in their daily lives, she has found four major concerns to women everywhere:

•"I feel overwhelmed, overscheduled and exhausted."
•"I don't like what I see in the mirror anymore."
•“I just always feel so unhappy and depressed.”
•“I’m afraid that I’m losing my spiritual connection with God and Jesus Christ.”

The Incredible Gifts of Women was written so that her experiences – and those of other women – can help those who feel they may have lost their God-given gifts of joy, happiness, and self-worth to discover their own personal gifts and inspire them to change their lives and blossom into self-confident women of God.

One of my favorite parts is when she tells of a story about her friend, Wanda.

Wanda's husband was a distributor for Wrigley's Spearmint gum. Each week, after filling all his orders, he would call the company and they would send a delivery person to his home to replenish his supply. The deliveryman knew exactly where to leave the cases in Brother Swenson's garage.

One particularly hectic morning, after the children had left for school and Wanda had fed the baby, she decided that she would throw in a quick load of laundry before starting her day. Still in her nightgown, holding the baby in one arm, she grabbed the laundry basket and headed for the washing machine in the corner of the garage. The first thing she spotted on the garage floor was her son's football helmet. She put the laundry basket down, threw the clothes in the washer, picked up the helmet, and lacking another hand to carry it, plopped it on to her head. Then the baby spat up all of the recently eaten rice cereal on Wanda's nightgown. Spit up was everywhere and had soaked through to the skin. In desperation, she put the baby under one arm horizontally, stripped down to nothing, and threw the soiled clothing into the washing machine. Get the picture!

At that very moment, the garage door started to open. It was the delivery man! She decided to "freeze!" Maybe he would not notice. He took two big cases out of his trunk and carried them to the designated spot. He repeated this several times without so much as a glance in her direction. As the trunk was emptied and he was leaving, he said, "Say lady, I sure hope your team wins."

After I read that I HAD to read it to Doran and laughed just as hard the second time.
Did I say I LOVE this book?

SO....I finally got on her web site and ordered a NEW one. it comes with a CD too. The CD does not cover the whole book but it has snippets. Not sure when this will come but when it does....it is yours!!

All you have to do is:
1-Leave a comment
2-Follow my blog
3-Follow me on twitter
4-Give me your blood type
5-Leave me your credit card number
6-Send me a birthday card
7-Text me and tell me you love me

Fine.......all I require is that you leave me a comment or e-mail and tell me you want to win this book. That's it. I will have daddy close his eyes and pick a name from 'the bowl'. When it gets here I will send it out pronto. One more request....when you get done reading it, read it again or share with your neighbor, friend, family.

I will close this "opportunity" on Wednesday, March 23. (I told daddy to tell me a day next week. He has no idea what for. That's how we roll around here.)

Ready.....Set.....GO!!

Definitely sounds like a good read ... and that is a funny story! I love Sister Jones - I got to work with her as a counselor to a BYU Youth camp years ago (and Kenneth Cope - it was amazing) ... and she was the most gracious, lovely person - no wonder she has had such a successful career training beauty queens. Anyhow - sign me up for the contest, I would love to read this book and then share it, too!

BBJ has done a good deal to empower women and provide them with strategies to improve their lives. Isn't it great to be enthused about a book?
